Example
The 5-Paragraph
Before starting your essay about the topic you have chosen you have to know about the basic 5 paragraph argumentative essay. What this essay is about is proving a point or a statement. You are supposed to research evidence and use it in a persuasive way usually in 3 different paragraphs, in each paragraph you have to prove the point you want to make and then back it up with evidence. You have to end the essay by summarizing the argument. This is the example:
· I. Introduction and thesis statement
· II. Body
o A. First Point and evidence
o B. Second point and evidence
o C. Third Point and evidence
· III. Conclusion

Extended Essay
The extended essay has to be more than 2,000 words. Some problems students have are for example the amount of material, the background material and the complexity of the argument. I’m going to give you some information on these so you can understand what the extended essay is all about. The amount of material used in this essay has to be a 2 year long research. Try not to put in things that are irrelevant to the topic or that is not as important because you will get off topic. Try to have a well stated thesis to guide you better in the process. The background material is also very important, first off because the reader is not aware of this topic, they do not know about this as much as we do, so we have to try to give them some background on this so they could understand and know about the topic. It is also good to add facts so the readers are sure about what you are talking about. You have to make sure everything is in order and it looks like you know what you are talking about. Complexity of argument is just organizing your arguments in the right order.

This is an example of how you can do this:
I. Introduction and Thesis Statement.

II. Background Information.

III. Sub-Essay One.
A. Sub-Introduction and Sub-Thesis Statement One
B. Point One
C. Point Two
D. Point Three
E. Sub-Conclusion One

IV. Sub-Essay Two.

B. Point Four
C. Point Five
D. Point Six
E. Sub-Conclusion Two

V. Sub-Essay Three

B. Point Seven
C. Point Eight
D. Point Nine
E. Sub-Conclusion Three

VI. Conclusion

But of course there is many other ways to do one.
